In Messina on 16-17th September it was successfully held the MER training course organized by ENEA in collaboration with the Engineering Faculty, the Architects Association, the Association of Messina’s Engineers and the National Institute for Green building (INBAR) at the Engineering Faculty Auditorium. The “Eco-innovation and competitiveness in Industrial Areas Management: MER Project” event, organized in the framework of the MER Project (www. merproject.eu), presented the results of the activities highlighting measures to foster companies cooperation (e.g. the Italian contratto di rete – “enterprises’ network contract”) and suggesting new marketing interventions to enhance competitiveness in the local industrial areas and attract investments. The purpose is the creation of an international network aiming at exchanging ideas, experiences and opportunities in energetic and environmental sectors, in order to improve Mediterranean Industrial Areas competitiveness and attractiveness in the framework of the Europe 2020 strategy for a sustainable development. During the meeting, the importance of the creation of synergies between research centers, universities, local entities, professionals and enterprises has been stressed, as well as professionals’ role as drivers of innovative solutions. Ms. Lucy Fenech, municipality of Messina’s representative, took the floor to highlight the connection between MER project and the municipality’s Action Plan-to-come for Sustainable Energy (PAES). Professor Ricciardi from the civil, IT, construction, environmental, applied mathematics and engineering department (Dicieama) of the university of Messina along with the other event organizers, wished for the continuation of the partnership in order to bring sustainable growth to the local area.
